> [LOG]: Upgrading Pareidolia to the Latest GameMaker Version

Hello again,

I decided to upgrade my GameMaker version last week to take advantage of the new audio and string functions as alot of these can replace some of the solutions I originally had. I especially believe that Pareidolia will greatly improve from using the more advanced audio functions introduced in GameMaker 2022.11. This drastic shift in workspace versions caused a few issues that I needed to address before I could continue but (hopefully) most of them have been fixed. I attached a picture of the collision issues that come about with the new version. I thought it was kinda amusing.

I also came to the realization that outrunning the monster in Pareidolia feels more like you’re outpacing it. Like you’re speed-walking away from it. Alot of the feedback that I received from the first demo regarded the platforming speed feeling too slow and I agreed with it then and especially now. Originally I thought that the solution was bumping the top speed for walking from 1 unit to 1.2 units per frame. This felt like a significant change gameplay wise but in the grand scheme of the survival aspect of the game, it still felt too slow. This week I am focusing on animating running sprites to match the new direction of player movement and finishing the animations for the monster and implementing them into the monster’s ai.

I really want the second demo to be polished and as tight as possible before sharing it on itch. I missed a few of my deadlines already due to life and financial frustrations and I am hoping to get back on track using the new IDE features.

Until next week. Thank you for your continued interest!
